Why are we still using physical SIM cards?

Using physical SIM cards in 2022

SIM cards have been around for a long time and are an essential part of our phones. This protects our phone number by connecting it to a specific provider who provides us with services.
Many customers, on the other hand, are perplexed as to why we continue to use physical SIM cards when alternatives, such as eSIMs, are built right into the device. While this is true, not all glitters are gold; each has benefits and drawbacks.

What information does it contain?

SIM cards do not include an operating system or software; instead, they store relevant data such as phone numbers, contacts, and operators.

After all, the card’s purpose is to identify the user and enable them to use GSM networks.

Is an eSIM better?

As we stated at the outset, each has advantages and disadvantages. As a result, no simple solution exists. SIM cards, on the other hand, are still in use because they have some advantages over eSIMs, most notably access. To put it another way, it is simple for everyone and allows us to transfer data simply by removing the sim card.

You can use it on another phone because the SIM card is removable. This, however, may prevent the device from detecting it. The eSIM, on the other hand, is not in this category. To transmit our data, we’d need to connect to the cloud and download it. As a result, we risk losing everything if we don’t have a phone backup. This would be a problem for thea as well.

If our phone’s battery dies, we can charge it using a SIM card from another phone. This is not possible with an eSIM.

However, in some cases, an eSIM is safer because it provides additional security. Because cybercriminals must go through a security procedure to access the data on their phone, this is far more difficult to hack than standard SIMs. If we use an old one, hackers will be able to easily access all of them by simply sending a password recovery SMS.

It is not uncommon for electronic devices to fail when they come into physical contact with something. However, this isn’t always the case because if it’s inside the phone, it won’t be scratched as much unless you’re a heavy scratcher.
