By default, Windows 11 does not display any specific desktop icons (such as “This PC” or “Recycle Bin”). If you prefer a more traditional Windows look, you can easily enable unique desktop icons. Here’s how to get going.
Desktop icons on Windows 11
To begin, right-click a space on your desktop and select “Personalize.”
Navigate to the “Personalization” page in the Windows Settings app. Then, from the Personalization drop-down menu, select “Themes.”
Select “Desktop Icon Settings” from the Themes drop-down menu.
The “Desktop Icon Settings” window will appear. Check the boxes next to the relevant icons in the “Desktop Icons” section at the top of the window. If you want the Recycle Bin to appear on your desktop, restrict “Recycle Bin.” When you’re finished, click “OK.”
If you choose “OK,” the window will then close. You can also choose to exit the Settings menu. When you look at your desktop, you’ll notice the distinct icons you decided on in the “Desktop Icon Settings” window.
Hold down the Ctrl key on your computer and scroll your mouse wheel up or down to make your desktop icons larger or smaller.
If you want to hide some important desktop icons, go back to Settings > Personalization > Themes and uncheck the ones you no longer wish to see.
Do you want to remove all of the icons from your desktop? Toggle the “Show Desktop Icons” option by right-clicking your desktop, selecting “View,” and then selecting “Show Desktop Icons.”
After that, you might want to experiment with your desktop by changing the background image. More information about Windows 11 is now available.
