Gmail is one of the best apps, and one of its best features is the addition of new ones. While the majority of the new features are well received, a few are not. One such feature was introduced in August 2020, when Google decided to add a Meet videoconferencing platform tab to the Gmail app and desktop.
Though it is a regular feature to be added, it is understandable why people would object to such a minor addition. However, there were some issues associated with it. While it worked almost perfectly on the desktop, it expanded the bottom margins of the app, leaving only a few lines to work with on the mobile app.
How do you get rid of Chat and Rooms tabs in Gmail App?
So I figured out a way to eliminate the meet tab because I don’t use it very often, and it bothered me. Google has also added the ability to access the chats and Rooms feature from within Gmail. This is also quite perplexing because people are having difficulty finding the tabs of their choice, and the new charges have once again taken up valuable space.
Save some good news. It is possible to get rid of these rooms and meet tab. The steps are outlined below. The steps below apply to both the Android and iOS versions of the Gmail app.
Here’s how to go about it:
- In the upper left corner, click the three-line “hamburger” icon.
- Scroll down and press the “Settings” button.
- Choose the Gmail account you want to modify.
- Scroll down to the “Chat” category on an Android phone and uncheck “Show the Chat and Rooms tabs.”
That’s all right! Isn’t it simple? You have thus freed up some space on the Gmail App.
How to Revert the settings back?
If you change your mind and want to see all of the tabs, including Google Meet and chat rooms, simply return to the same page of settings and check both the “Show the Chat and Rooms tabs” and the “Show the Meet tab for video calling” boxes. At the bottom of the screen, all three tabs will appear in a single line.
