Google has released a set of new data-friendly features for Android TV to help you monitor and reduce data usage while connected to a hotspot rather than wifi. The latest features are currently available on Xiaomi, TCL, and MarQ TVs but will be available globally later. The most enticing part is the new Data Saver mode, which can be enabled while connected to a hotspot via the Network & Internet option in the settings. According to Google, it will allow you to watch three times as much content while using the same amount of data.
With the Android 9 update, the data saver feature was made available. Even if you have an older version of Android, you can still get this feature on your TV by installing a third-party app. This will greatly benefit users with limited wifi data plans or those who use a mobile hotspot to watch TV content.
Here are the steps you can take to enable a data saver on an Android TV.
How to Enable Data Saver Mode on an Android TV?
Enable Data Saver Mode on an Android TV
- Users of Android TVs running Android version 9 or higher can go to settings and then tap on Network and Internet, as shown in the image.
- After selecting Network and Internet, a wifi-menu with a list of available networks will appear at the top of the screen. Below that, there will be other options, including the data saver block.
Now, turn on the data saver block to adjust video quality, save data, and extend your viewing time while connected to a mobile hotspot.
Using Third-Party app:
Suppose your Android TV is running an older version of Android and lacks a built-in Data Saver mode. So you don’t have to be concerned because you can install it using third-party apps. Google recently added the Data Saver feature to the settings utilizing a new app called Android TV Data Saver. It is a free app that can only be installed on Android 8.0 or higher TVs.
- Go to the Google Play store and look for it to install the app.
The app will appear at the top of the search results, and it will be written under the app name, as shown in the image above. Install the application.
The Data Saver mode will appear on the same Settings page after installing the Android TV Data Saver app. As previously stated, go to settings, tap on network and Internet, and the Data Saver option will appear. Now, enable the data saver option and reduce your bandwidth to enjoy more content.
Save More Internet through Data Saver Mode:
Follow these simple steps to enable Data Saver mode on Android TV. Because Android TV updates are slow and dependent on the manufacturer, Google has taken on the responsibility of incorporating this critical feature into an app. Even if you are not using the most recent Android version, the app will still function properly.
