HP is Working on a Foldable Screen Laptop Too in 2022

According to a new report from Korean tech blog TheElec, HP could be the third company to release a laptop with a foldable screen. According to the report, “foldable OLED” may soon become a common term among notebooks.

The Korean report claims that HP’s take on foldable OLED will be larger than Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Fold, which is a 13.3-inch laptop. Instead, HP is working with a 17-inch panel, which is rumored to be sourced from LG Display. When folded, it measures 11 inches.

HP has not yet officially announced any of this, but reports from other sources make it appear plausible. LG Display, for example, confirmed in January that it was working on a 17-inch foldable OLED screen. Starting in the third quarter of 2022, the display manufacturer intends to produce 10,000 foldable OLED panels for HP.

Furthermore, another South Korean display company, SK IE Technology, will be working on transparent polyimide films to cover the bendable 4K OLED panels, according to the report.

If HP’s foldable laptop becomes a reality, it will face stiff competition from Asus and Lenovo. However, given that HP is one of the world’s top three laptop manufacturers, we wouldn’t be surprised if other brands begin producing their own foldable OLED laptops as a result.
