Mahrukh Chohan, a 23-year-old from Bahawalpur, has joined the Pakistan Customs Service Group as the youngest Central Superior Services (CSS) officer.
She placed 73rd in the CSS examination 2021 and was assigned to the CSS (50 Common) Pakistan Customs Service Group. With this accomplishment, she became not only the youngest officer to join the Customs service this year, but also the youngest officer in Pakistan Customs history.
Chohan is the daughter of Major (Retd.) Muhammad Akhtar Abid Chohan of Kharian Tehsil in Gujrat, Punjab. She attended institutes in various cantonments and had to change schools frequently due to her father’s postings. Despite this, she persisted on her path to success.
In an interview with Daily Pakistan, Chohan, who passed the CSS exam on her first try, stated that she did not study at an academy to prepare for it, but rather did self-study.
She told the publication that she graduated from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad with a BS in Accounting and Finance.
Chohan also revealed that due to the pandemic, she could not complete her final semester on time.
“The university was closed, and the university later took the online exam.” “I graduated in June 2020, and I passed my CSS exam in February 2021,” she said, adding that the pandemic-induced lockdowns had helped her prepare for the CSS exam.
In response to a question, Chohan stated that taking a CSS examination is more of a test of nerves than of knowledge or skills.
“The more pressure you can handle, the better your chances of success,” she observed.
She also stated that her family is from Kharian but has lived in Bahawalpur for the last ten years due to her father’s post-retirement job.
