Ahsan Iqbal to Visit Gwadar to Review Progress on CPEC Projects in 2022

Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, will visit Gwadar following Eid-ul-Fitr to assess the progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.

On Friday, the Minister paid a visit to the CPEC Authority Secretariat, where Executive Director, CPEC, Qammar Sarwar Abbasi, briefed him on the status of the projects.

The minister directed that all Chinese companies working on CPEC projects be invited to listen to their problems to remove bottlenecks.

The minister also directed that the Chinese working on various projects be kept safe at all times. He stated that any issues with their visas would be resolved as soon as possible through the Ministry of Interior.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of streamlining working relationships with line ministries to give them greater ownership of CPEC projects.

According to the minister, government officials played an active and positive role in realizing the $29 billion CPEC investment. He claimed that the previous administration created an atmosphere of intimidation that sapped government officials’ initiative. He added that the new government would restore trust in government officials.

During his visit, the minister will inaugurate the installation of solar power generation units for households in various parts of Gwadar. Chinese companies in the city launched the project to assist low-income families.

During the briefing, the minister was informed that 940 solar units had already been installed, with a total of 3,000 units planned to help residents.
