Govt Directs Chief Secretaries to Carry Out Raids on Hoarding of Diesel in 2022

The federal government has directed all provinces’ Chief Secretaries to conduct raids on diesel stockpiles.

According to sources, the Secretary of Petroleum presided over an important meeting on diesel hoarding attended by OGRA, PSO, and Oil Marketing Companies representatives. According to sources, the Secretary of Petroleum has directed the provinces to take strict action against those accused of not only hoarding but also inducing a false shortage of diesel.

The meeting was informed that the country has sufficient petroleum product reserves, with 21 days of diesel and 31 days of gasoline available.

According to ProPakistani, the harvesting of wheat crops has increased the demand for diesel (to 33 thousand tons from 23 thousand tons).

According to sources, the incumbent government has assured the IMF that it will reverse the subsidies announced by the former Prime Minister on petroleum products, and as a result, an artificial shortage of diesel has been created by OMC as well as dealers in various cities throughout the country.
It was also revealed that the Petroleum Division had asked the provinces to revoke the licenses of hoarding dealers. Similarly, it has been directed to check and monitor the authorized diesel stock.

It is worth noting that there are approximately 10,000 authorized oil company dealers in the country, whereas people without a license are also selling diesel in the country.
