Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will preside over a federal cabinet meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow) to discuss various agenda items, including a summary for the appointment of the new Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Asim Ahmed and Tariq Pasha are two prominent candidates from the Inland Revenue Service (IRS) for the top position at the FBR. Both candidates have previously served as FBR Chairman. However, sources close to the situation told ProPakistani that Asim Ahmed is likely to be appointed to the top position.
He previously served as FBR Chairman from April to August 2021. He has also worked in the FBR’s information technology (IT) department.
Since the formation of the new collation government, rumors have circulated that FBR Chairman Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed will be replaced. Dr. Ashfaq recently traveled to the United States with Finance Minister Miftah Ismail for crucial talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The previous government appointed Dr. Ashfaq to the position in August of last year, succeeding Asim Ahmad. Following the return of Finance Minister Miftah Ismail from the United States, it was expected that the government would immediately change the Chairman.
The cabinet will be told about the state of law and order in the country. A detailed explanation of the country’s energy crisis will also be given. This has led to a lot of power outages across the country.
