Miftah Ismail, the Minister of Finance, said that the government would develop a new way to look at petroleum prices. He said that the government will only help people who use motorcycles, not people who have “big cars.”
If you ask Miftah, he said that the coalition government would make some changes to how things work in the coming months. Mr. Sharif told him that, as directed by him, the new government will try to ease the economic pressure as soon as possible. This is what he said.
Miftah said that the current government would collect more taxes than the previous one, but it won’t add any new taxes. The previous government had put the people under a lot of stress, which the current government wants to fix right away, he said.
Miftah said that the government would not be raising fuel prices right away. Also, despite several petrol pumps witnessing long queues of trucks due to rumored diesel shortage, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has claimed that such reports are false, implying that some petrol pumps are creating an artificial need in the market.
